so im not sure whats going on.. and to be quite honest, i don't really think anyone else in this country knows more than me.
i can tell you however that i am actually nervous about this whole thing... really really nervous!
the first time i felt the tremor was..monday night. sitting on my parents balcony and things started shaking!! and then at 3 45am tuesday morning i was woken up by my dads cell phone which was ringing away... got a call from a family friend saying geologists were expecting a major earthquake to hit nairobi at 4am, and that we had to go outside. first thing that came into my mind - what a joke! but ok...i went with the flow.
sat in the garden...was freezing...so went back inside to get my mums HUGE winter coat.
called karin to tell her to do the same....no answer...
call gathoni and she picks up! ... tell her to get her parents awake and to get outside!
i then went outside...and decided that if anything was to actually happen...the only thing i would be left with was the huge winter coat that was swallowing me.
SO i went back in...and grabbed my "valuables"... (at this point, i felt like a total idiot)
i thought of everything! laptop, camera, passports! AND lets not forget...my cell phone. ok, maybe i didnt think of everything.
went outside ...put the stuff on the grass and then realised my mums car was still in the garage. so...moved that!
at around 5 to 4...my dad, my brother, ruth, schola and i sat. and waited for the house to collapse.
4 30 - i called gathoni...to see if they felt anything..and what do you know...she was alseep! ASLEEP!
then decided to go into the house and try sleep myself. and pretend that the last hour didnt actually happen.
watched KTN last night in an effort to actually make sense of this madness.
the epicentre has been traced to a volcano which is in the north of tanzania. about 180ks from nairobi. and apparently if you are 150ks away from the epicentre you are out of danger.
ya_im not too sure about that. i dont really trust mother nature.
also found out that 90% of kenya's buildings are built by non-professionals. surprised...? NOT REALLY!
the whole of yesterday, workers were being evacuated from their buildings in town. and to this moment_no one knows what to do if the tremors start again. the radio dj's on kiss 100 are debating whether one should go under the table or not...
no tremors today though! spoke to my mum_she's in italy. and is missing out on all the drama. was going to the vatican today. yes_im just a tad bit jealous.
never a dull moment in this place i tell you
